*Stormy's restaurant is one of the oldest roadhouses in the West, established in 1854. We, the Cramer family, have owned and operated the establishment the longest, since 1961. Ellen Cramer, "Stormy," was orphaned at birth. She was of Cherokee and Irish decent and given up at birth forcibly by her teenage Cherokee mother. When she turned 18 she left her life in Missouri and made her way West. She made her way to various female work housing units on her way to California. When WWII broke out she joined the Army and became a staff truck driver, a W.A.C. After she married and subsequently divorced her husband, she moved to Berkeley, California where she worked three jobs and purchased her house. In 1961 she saw our current building for sale and yearned for a change. She then uprooted from Berkeley with her son Roger and purchased the building in 1961. At the time she ran it as a beer and wine bar that served sandwiches and snacks, such as her famous house pickled eggs. In the early 1970's her son Roger turned the business into a steakhouse and purchased a full liquor license. Today with his wife Carolyn and daughter Taylor Marie, they have continued the tradition of serving house aged steaks and prime rib along with seafood, chicken and house specialty dishes. All dinners are served family style with Stormy Cramer's clam chowder, garden salad with house dressing, whole cream mashed potatoes, fresh vegetable and French bread. We also have a full bar, eight rotating beers on tap, wine and a large wood burning fireplace in the bar, to warm you up on those stormy nights.
